Improvement of Maternal care service
Optimal maternity care should follow the principle of “effective care with least harm. Low neonatal and maternal mortality rate indicate quality of maternal care service.
Maternal care service of the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya provide high quality care for each and every pregnancy. Annual average deliveries in the hospital is about 7700 and institutional maternal mortality rate 115/100,000 live births.
Maternal care service of hospital will be improved under the second health sector development program of Ministry of Health with the financial assistance from the World Bank.
This project encompasses
- Improvement of infrastructure in the maternal wards (ward 10 & 19), postnatal wards (11 & 19), labour room, labour room theatre & antenatal clinic.
- Provision of medical equipment
- Improvement of health information management system
- Capacity building of the staff
