The Teaching Hospital Peradeniya is a tertiary Care Hospital with a bed strength of about 900. The Hospital is treating annually about 70,000 to 80,000 patients in wards and about 350,000 patients at the Outpatient Department. About 300,000 patients receive Medical Care from Clinics conducted in the Hospital annually.

Our hospital provides services in relation to the main Medical disciplines; Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Medicine, Psychiatry, Orthopedics, Neonatology, Toxicology, Neurology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Hematology, Radiology, and Nuclear Medicine. We also have a fully equipped laboratory, two Premature Baby Care Unit, Preliminary Care Unit, Physiotherapy Unit, EEG and EMG services, ECG Department, Institutional Drugs Store and Dispensaries, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy Unit. The Hospital has a 10 bedded ICU, 03 bedded Dental ICU, Neonatal ICU and 3 bedded ICU at the Toxicology Unit.

We perform about 800 major Surgeries per month. There are about 600 deliveries per month in the Obstetric Unit of the Hospital.

The total work force is 1747. This includes 3 Medical Administrators (a Director and two Deputy Directors), 52 Consultants (43 attached to Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya), 183 Grade Medical Officers, 42 Dental Surgeons, 594 Nursing Staff (Nursing Officers, Ward Masters, Ward Sisters and matron), 43 Public Health Midwives, 86 Paramedical Staff, about 100 Office Staff (Public Management Assistant /Development Assistant/Development Officer/Medical Record Assistant). 551 Health Work Assistants (Attendants and Minor Staff) and 75 from other Service categories (Electricians, Carpenters, Drivers, etc)
